HÀ NỘI – Outbreaks of cattle diseases have appeared in some areas across the country, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Veterinary Department.

Thirteen outbreaks of avian influenza, commonly called bird flu, were reported in six provinces in the first nine months of the year, and more than 18,900 poultry infected by H5N1 and H5N6 have been destroyed.

Also, foot and mouth disease in cattle were reported to have infected over 2,800 cattle in 12 provinces, the department said on Monday.

The current outbreaks of dangerous diseases in cattle and poultry had been controlled, but the risk and spread of disease in the coming months was still very high due to complicated weather patterns and illegal transportation of animal and animal products across borders, deputy minister Vũ Văn Tám said.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has launched an action month on hygiene and environmental disinfection in order to proactively halt the spread of animal diseases.

The action month will start on November 1st.

The ministry has also asked local residents to spray disinfectant in household livestock farms, animal markets in rural areas and areas where smuggled animals are stored.

Additionally, animal quarantine agencies at borders are required to closely co-ordinate with relevant agencies to sterilise animal transport vehicles. – VNS
