HCM CITY — The Civil Aviation Authority of Việt Nam (CAAV) has asked for approval from the ministries of Transport and National Defence to build a reservoir to solve flooding at Tân Sơn Nhất Airport.

The reservoir would be built at Chảo Lửa football field in Tân Bình District. Since the football field is managed by the Air Force and Air Defence, CAAV must ask for the ministry’s permission.

CAAV’s proposal was accepted by the city’s People’s Committee.

If the A41 ditch is unable to drain water from the airport during heavy rains, a reservoir would be necessary to prevent flooding and ensure airport safety and operations.

The 1.2-hectare reservoir, with a depth of 5-7 metres, is expected to ease flooding on 20 hectares of the airfield. – VNS
