LAI CHÂU — Turbine group 2 with a capacity of 400 MW of the Lai Châu hydropower plant in northern Lai Châu province will provide electricity for the national grid starting this week.

According to Director of the Sơn La-Lai Châu Hydropower Plant Project Management Board Phạm Hồng Phương, the turbine group, which has completed a test run, will be put into official operation four or five days ahead of schedule, on June 25 and will help ensure supply of power in the summer season.

The first 400MW turbine group of the plant went on line last year. Located in the upper reach of the Đà River, the three-turbine plant is designed for a combined capacity of 1,200 MW. It will supply over 4,670 million KWh of electricity for the national grid per year when all three of its turbines become operational. — VNS
