HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc has ordered the concerned ministries, people’s committees and sectors to raise awareness of injury and drowning prevention measures among students.

The Prime Minister asked these agencies to strictly apply his Decision No 234/QĐ-TTg, dated February 5, 2016, on preventing accidents and injuries among children during the 2016-2020 period.

Under the order, the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) has been authorised to co-ordinate with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) to instruct local education centres to review physical educational training programmes, especially those teaching swimming skills and appropriate responses in cases of disasters such as fires and floods.

The people’s committees of cities and provinces nation-wide are responsible for inspecting facilities for physical training activities for students and for placing warning signs in dangerous areas.

The Prime Minister called on the MoET, MoLISA and people’s committees of cities and provinces as well as the Youth Union to strengthen the management of students and children and to organise safe summer activities.

He assigned the Ministry of Information and Communications to work with Việt Nam Television and the Voice of Việt Nam to promote communications that raise awareness and highlight the responsibility of organisations and individuals in preventing injury and drowning among children.

The families of students should be encouraged to teach their children how to prevent injuries and avoid drowning and to warn students against swimming in dangerous or unhygienic areas. — VNS
