TRÀ VINH – The Republic of Korea’s Woojin Construction Co Ltd will pour more than VNĐ4.9 trillion (US$247.6 million) into construction for the second phase of the RoK-Trà Vinh wind power plant in Trường Long Hòa Commune, Duyên Hải Town, in the Mekong Delta province of Trà Vinh.
The 96-megawat plant will span nearly 2,500ha of land and water surface. It will have 48 wind turbines, which are expected to generate more than 332,438MWh of power per year.
The project aims to support the national power grid and ensure energy security for the province and neighbouring localities.
Construction of the project’s first plant was launched on February 24. The plant, worth $130 million, was designed to have a total capacity of 48 megawatts. Upon completion next February, it will generate over 173,000 MWh of power every year.
According to Trần Anh Dũng, vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, the Ministry of Industry and Trade approved a plan to develop wind power in Trà Vinh Province through 2020 with a vision towards 2030, targeting wind power output of 634 million kWh by 2020.
The province has planned six wind power projects in coastal areas in Duyên Hải District and Duyên Hải Town, including three in Trường Long Hòa Commune, two in Hiệp Thành Commune and one in Đông Hải Commune.– VNS
