HÀ NỘI — Hà Nội has begun installing 36 LED information screens at major intersections to improve traffic management, the capital city police said.
The rollout, part of phase 2 of a citywide upgrade, comes alongside 2,460 new AI-enabled cameras. The screens are linked to Hà Nội’s Traffic Control Centre to provide real-time updates on congestion, flooding, adverse weather and incidents, allowing drivers to choose alternative routes.
Locations include National Highway No 3–National Highway No 18, Võ Chí Công–Nguyễn Hoàng Tôn, National Highway No 2-Võ Văn Kiệt, Quang Trung–Lê Trọng Tấn, Đàm Quang Trung–Cổ Linh, Mai Dịch overpass and other key junctions. Operations are due to start on July 15.
During peak hours, the screens will display congestion at upcoming junctions and suggest alternate routes to ease bottlenecks. In heavy rain or slippery conditions, they will issue safety warnings.
Beyond traffic updates, content will include legal notices, safe driving guidance, common violations and related penalties.
Since early July, police say they have installed 2,460 AI cameras, including 1,107 for traffic violations, 960 for traffic counts, 112 panoramic junction cameras, 251 security cameras and 30 for speed enforcement.

Authorities have also set up 57 servers, 100 smart signal control cabinets and 930 camera poles, and laid 475km of fibre-optic and 136km of power cable across 238 key intersections and gateways. Data is routed to the city’s command centre and processed on an AI platform.
When phase 2 is complete, nearly 5,000 AI cameras will be connected, covering more than half of the city’s traffic management needs. Police said the growing dataset will support forecasting, flow analysis, early congestion alerts and more effective enforcement, and could aid wider urban management by flagging sidewalk encroachment, illegal parking and improper waste dumping. — VNS
