HÀ NỘI — A 48-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of murder by the Investigation Agency of Hà Nội City Police after pushing a traffic police officer into an incoming lorry, according to a public announcement on Friday.

Around 1.35pm on Thursday afternoon, on the Provincial Road 429 in Bóng Hamlet, Phượng Dực Commune, the Road Traffic Police Team No. 8 spotted Đặng Từ Thịnh – residing in Phượng Dực Commune, Hà Nội City – riding a motorbike without a helmet.

Suspecting that his vehicle used a fake licence plate, the team signalled him to stop for inspection.

While taking the motorbike to the checkpoint, Thịnh asked the police officers to not fine him, but they refused.

At that moment, a lorry approached on the road. Thịnh suddenly grabbed an officer from the team and pushed him into the front of the lorry. The officer managed to dodge the oncoming vehicle in time, pursued, apprehended Thịnh, and handed him over to the Phượng Dực Commune Police for further action.

Based on the collected evidence, the Investigation Agency of Hà Nội City Police has placed Thịnh in criminal detention to investigate the murder charge. — VNS
