HÀ NỘI — Prolonged torrential rains and flooding in the central region have left at least 13 people dead and 34 others injured, according to the latest update from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
Đà Nẵng City reported eight fatalities, while Huế City reported two. Two others were from Lâm Đồng Province and one from Quảng Trị Province.
Eleven people remain missing in Quảng Trị, Huế and Đà Nẵng.
Fifty-six houses have completely collapsed and 147 others were severely damaged, while more than 116,700 homes were inundated, the report said.
Floods have also damaged 4,871ha of rice and other crops and 790ha of fruit trees. Lâm Đồng Province was the hardest hit, with nearly 3,900ha of crops destroyed. Around 17,800 livestock and poultry have died or been swept away.
About 438,325 customers in 109 communes and wards across Huế, Đà Nẵng, Quảng Trị and Lâm Đồng remain without power.
Local authorities are urgently working to address the aftermath, focusing on draining floodwater, clearing roads, restoring electricity and preparing to reopen tourist sites and heritage areas once weather conditions stabilise. — VNS
