HCM CITY — Bình Dân Hospital in HCM City has sent a leading specialist to Côn Đảo Special Zone to offer consultation and treatment for a 17-year-old patient with severe injuries after a traffic accident.

On the morning of September 8, Dr. Nguyễn Tạ Quyết, head of the hospital’s Hepatobiliary Department took a flight to Côn Đảo island to directly consult and treat the patient, who was hospitalised at the Côn Đảo Military-Civilian Medical Centre after being hit from behind by a car.

He was sent to the emergency room with low blood pressure, abrasions on the left side of the back, chest and right ribs, and pain all over the abdomen.

To support the diagnosis and treatment of the patient, the Board of Directors of Bình Dân Hospital sent its specialist to the island.

The patient is currently in stable condition.

The city Department of Health highly appreciated the decision to send more specialists to the island to strengthen consultations and care for patients with serious injuries instead of transferring them to hospitals on the mainland.

The Côn Đảo Military-Civilian Medical Centre has enough treatment facilities, especially an operating room and a blood bank that have just been deployed by major hospitals in the city.

Assoc Prof Trần Vĩnh Hưng, director of Bình Dân Hospital, said the hospital consulted the Department of Health to equip a modern operating room system at the centre.

In addition, the hospital sent two doctors with rich experience in general surgery and anesthesia to work at the centre.

Previously, on September 6, the on-site team of doctors working on rotation at Côn Đảo Military-Civilian Medical Centre successfully performed the first laparoscopic surgery to remove an appendicitis on a 36-year-old male patient. —VNS
