HÀ NỘI – The Vietnamese government has allocated over VNĐ4.55 trillion (nearly US$178 million) to eliminate temporary and substandard houses for low-income households nationwide, the Ministry of Ethnic and Religion Affairs announced on Sunday.

The funding, sourced from a 5 per cent savings in last year's regular expenditure as approved by the National Assembly, has been distributed to localities for implementing the housing support programme.

To date, VNĐ2.83 trillion, nearly 82 per cent of the assigned budget, has been disbursed by ministries, sectors, local administrations, banks, and corporations, with dozens of entities completing 100 per cent of their financial transfers.

According to the ministry, up to 168,027 homes have been supported under the initiative, including 15,491 houses for revolutionary contributors, 60,473 under two national target programmes, and 92,063 under the specific programme to eliminate temporary and substandard houses.

The nationwide campaign, launched under the Prime Minister’s initiative “Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses by 2025,” has seen strong commitments and coordination from central to local levels. VNS
