LÀO CAI — Seven people have been reported missing after a landslide in the northern mountainous province of Lào Cai Province four houses, authorities from Bát Xát District reported early Monday morning.

The disaster occurred at around 4am Monday, affecting four households and a total of 19 people.

More than 200 people have been mobilised for rescue efforts, which are being hindered due to continuing heavy downpours in the region due to the remnants of Typhoon Yagi.

Local authorities also said that the head of Trung Hồ Village, whose initials are given as L.A.G., has also been reported missing. He was helping villagers evacuate from erosion-prone sites.

Meanwhile Phùng Láo Lở, a local from Nậm Chạc Commune, was injured after being carried away by strong currents and is being treated at the local health station.

Just yesterday, also in Lào Cai, following the downpour caused by Typhoon Yagi, a sudden landslide in the popular tourist destination Sa Pa town has buried four houses, killing 6 people. — VNS
