HCM CITY — HCM City’s Metro Line No. 1, connecting Bến Thành and Suối Tiên, is expected by the Prime Minister to be completed by the end of this year.
In addition, the Prime Minister also assigned the City People's Committee to approve project adjustments, implement the project in accordance with the law, proactively take measures to resolve difficulties and problems, and carry out the project on schedule.
At the same time, the People's Committee needs to proactively find solutions for contractors who have complaints, so that the project can be completed on schedule.
The committee will be responsible to the law, the Prime Minister and inspection agencies for the accuracy and truthfulness of reported information and data and allocating adequate capital for the project.
According to the City’s Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR), 98.24 per cent of the project is complete, bringing it close to the finish line, but it still faces some challenges.
The Bến Thành-Suối Tiên metro line spans 19.7km between District 1's Bến Thành Market and Thủ Đức City's Long Thành Depot, featuring three underground stations and 11 elevated stations. Work on the metro project began in 2012 and has experienced various delays, with costs rising to over VNĐ43.7 trillion (US$1.71 billion).
