HÀ NỘI — Five-year-old children will be exempt from tuition fees from the start of the next school year.

The regulation was defined in Article 15 of the Government’s Decree 81/2021/NĐ-CP.

The decree, which took effect on October 15, 2021, contains regulations on tuition and management for educational institutions under the national education system.

It stipulates policies on tuition exemption, reduction and service prices in the education and training sector.

According to Clause 6, Article 15 of the decree, a total of 19 groups of beneficiaries are eligible for tuition exemption.

The Ministry of Education and Training has sent Official Dispatch No 2179/BGDĐT-KHTC to ministries, ministerial-level agencies, socio-political organisations, provincial and municipal people's committees and schools to guide the Government’s regulations.

Other groups who are exempted from fees include disabled students, orphan students as regulated in the Law on Vocational Education, and students in severely disadvantaged, island, border, remote and mountainous areas.

The beneficiaries also include children from families who have made a great contribution to the nation, ethnic students alongside students who study majors including tuberculosis, leprosy, psychiatry and pathology, according to the State's targets.

They also involve learners of specific fields serving requirements of socio-economic development, national defence and security, based on the Law on Vocational Education and the Prime Minister’s regulations. — VNS
