German man died, wife injured after motorbike fell over cliff

The accident killed the husband while the wife suffered from multiple injuries. She is now treated at the Hoà Bình Provincial General Hospital.

HOÀ BÌNH — A 64-year-old German man died while his 61-year-old wife was injured in a traffic accident that occurred on Wednesday morning in the northern province of Hoà Bình.

According to Mai Châu District’s authorities, the accident happened when the man identified as Freddy Host was driving a motorbike, carrying his wife Susanne Heike from Đồng Tân Commune in Mai Châu District to Chiềng Yên Commune, Vân Hồ District of the neighbouring province Sơn La.

They fell off a 40m-high cliff at around 10.30 am. The man died on the spot, while the wife suffered from multiple injuries. She is now treated at the Hoà Bình Provincial General Hospital.

As soon as the accident occurred, local police coordinated with agencies to promptly examine the scene and the body of the deceased and investigate to clarify the cause of the incident. — VNS
