HÀ NỘI — The Tết Sum Vầy (New Year's Reunion) programme, organised by various trade unions over the past decade, has created a warm atmosphere of goodwill and sharing during the Tết (Lunar New Year) holiday.
Ngô Văn Đông, an employee of Vietnam Jsc, visited the Tết union market in 2024 held at the Việt-Xô Cultural Friendship Palace, where he purchased various essential items for Tết at discounted prices.
"Workers can buy items with discounts ranging from 15-40 per cent depending on the product," shared Đông.
Nguyễn Hoàng Long, Chairman of the Trade Union of Matsuo Industries Vietnam Co., Ltd., stated that the company had 20 workers participating in the "Tết Sum vầy - Spring Sharing" programme.
"The company's union selected members and workers facing difficulties to attend the Tết Sum Vầy programme. The activities of the trade unions have significant meaning for workers, especially those facing challenges during the Tết and spring season. It serves as spiritual encouragement for them to welcome a peaceful Tết, alleviating worries in their lives," shared Long.
He also added that during this Tết, the company's union implemented activities to care for workers during Tết. It focused on salary bonuses, year-end parties, and essential gifts to ensure workers feel secure and connected to the company.
Lê Thị Hương from Nam Hà Nội Joint Stock Company participates in the programme for the first time this year. Her 10-year-old son, unable to walk or engage in personal activities due to congenital cerebral palsy, requires constant care. With her husband's poor health, Hương bears the financial burden of all expenses, daily life, and medical bills for her son alone.
"Each worker receives support of VNĐ1.5 million (US$60), participates in the Tết market, and receives gift vouchers. The support and assistance from the trade union organisation have truly motivated and helped me and other workers in the company overcome difficulties," added Hương.
With the motto "All members, workers must have Tết," during this Lunar New Year, trade unions of Hà Nội focus on utilising all resources to take care of members and workers. Priority is given to members and workers facing special difficulties, including those with work-related accidents, occupational diseases, severe illness, reduced working hours, job loss, members and workers who have not been able to return home for Tết for many years, and those staying at units and enterprises to work during Tết.
The work of caring for members and workers is organised at three levels: Hà Nội Federation of Labour, direct grassroots trade unions, and grassroots trade unions. Activities include organising the Tết Sum Vầy programme focused at the grassroots and direct grassroots levels, organising visits, gift-giving, encouragement, and Tết wishes for members and workers. Additionally, there are programmes such as the "Tết Trade Union Market 2024" both in-person and online, the "Trade Union Tết Journey - Spring 2024," and activities caring for members and workers who do not return home for Tết. The Hà Nội Federation of Labour and grassroots trade unions will support over 115,000 members and workers facing difficulties with an amount exceeding VNĐ65 billion ($2.6 million).
In addition, the Hà Nội Federation of Labour directs grassroots trade unions to proactively coordinate with employers to organise practical support activities for the material and spiritual lives of members and workers. This is to ensure that members and workers have a safe, joyful, warm, and happy Tết.
The Hà Nội Federation of Labour directs trade unions at all levels to swiftly disseminate information about Tết care activities for members and workers through various media channels, emphasising the trade union's role in nurturing members during the festive season.
The nationwide Tết Sum Vầy programme in 2024, organised by trade unions, includes innovative activities like the "Trade Union Tết Market 2024," both in physical and e-commerce spaces, "Trade Union Flight", and "Trade Union Train - Spring 2024", directed by the Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour.
In Hà Nội, the "Trade Union Tết Market 2024" features 124 booths offering quality products at discounted prices (starting from 15 per cent), including zero-đồng stalls for members and workers. The event incorporates entertaining activities, games, prize draws, and the distribution of approximately 5,000 gift packages to those facing special difficulties.
Moreover, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour organises the "Trade Union Tết Journey - Spring 2024" to visit and care for members and workers at grassroots levels, border areas, islands, remote regions, and particularly those in Hải Dương, Bắc Ninh, and other areas affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
These Tết activities foster a joyful and warm atmosphere, strengthening the connection between trade unions and their members. The practical initiatives significantly contribute to enhancing the material and spiritual well-being of members and workers, boosting morale, and ensuring a confident and content Tết celebration. VNS
