HCM City honours 14 outstanding young citizens in 2023

HCM CITY — Fourteen outstanding young citizens of HCM City in 2023 have been honoured by the city’s Hồ Chí Minh Communist Youth Union.

The honouring ceremony was held at the municipal Youth’s Cultural House on Monday (January 1).

Speaking at the ceremony, municipal People’s Committee chairman Phan Văn Mãi highly appreciated the excellent young citizens who have the spirit of overcoming difficulties to achieve their goals.

This annual event was first organised in 2006. The city has honoured 151 exemplary young Vietnamese over the past 18 years for their outstanding contributions to the city in many fields of studying, teaching, scientific research, manufacturing, healthcare, armed forces, literature and the arts, social work, and the youth union’s activities, he said.

“I hoped that the city’s youth will always keep their warm hearts and humanity as well as connect with people in the community and contribute to building a better life, and developing HCM City into a civilised, modern, and compassionate city,” he said.

The honoured young faces in 2023 were chosen among 2.9 million young people and more than 1.4 million children in the city.

Hà Thị Thanh Hương of International University under National University-HCM City (VNU-HCM), Lê Thanh Long of HCM City University of Technology under VNU-HCM, and Đặng Lê Minh Khang of the HCM City University of Medicine and Pharmacy were named in the field of scientific research.

Captain Võ Thị Bích Phương, deputy head of the Youth sub-department of the city’s Department of Public Security, and lieutenant colonel Ngô Trường An, deputy Political Commissar of the Gia Định regiment under the HCM City High Command, were named as young outstanding faces in the armed forces.

Huỳnh Thị Anh Thi of the HCM City Hát Bội (classical drama) Theatre, and gymnast Nguyễn Văn Khánh Phong were named as outstanding young faces in sports and arts.

Director of La Hallelu chocolate company Nguyễn Hồng Huy was honoured as an exemplary young entrepreneur.

The fields of social affairs and work related to youth unions honoured secretary of the Youth Union of the city’s Hi-Tech Agricultural Park Nguyễn Hoàng Duy Lưu, secretary of the Youth Union of the HCMC Construction Department Nguyễn Trần Anh Vũ, and Lưu Hoàng Phúc of Lạc Long Quân Primary School in District 11.

Lê Minh Đức of Lê Hồng Phong High School for the Gifted in District 5, Lê Nam Long of Trần Đại Nghĩa High School for the Gifted in District 1, and Huỳnh Anh Thư of Secondary School Nguyễn Du in Gò Vấp District were named as students with excellent academic achievements.

Mãi also asked the youth unions and local authorities to pay more attention to youth activities and create favourable conditions for young people to participate in political, economic, cultural, and social tasks, especially the implementation of Resolution No 98 on specific mechanisms and policies for the city's growth. — VNS
