HCM CITY — One more HCM City resident has tested positive for monkeypox, the seventh in Việt Nam since the first patient was identified in October last year, health authorities said on Tuesday.

The patient is a 22-year-old man living in Tân Bình District, according to a release from the Tân Bình District Health Centre.

The patient visited the HCM City Hospital for Tropical Diseases on Monday after suspecting he had symptoms of the disease, and a day later the hospital said he had tested positive.

The patient is being isolated and treated at the hospital, but is in good condition.

After receiving confirmation from the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, the district health centre traced individuals who had been in close contact with the patient.

They have been instructed to self-monitor their health at home for the next 21 days, and inform their ward health station if they find any symptoms.

The most common symptoms are headache, fever, fatigue, rashes, and muscle aches.

It is the fifth case of monkeypox in the city.

Lương Chấn Quang, deputy head of the disease control and prevention ward at the city’s Pasteur Institute, said it is essential for everyone to be aware of and follow the instructions given by healthcare workers to prevent the spread of the disease in the community.

The disease can spread from person to person via large respiratory droplets and direct contact, including sexual intercourse. — VNS
