ĐỒNG NAI — Continuing education schools in Đồng Nai Province are offering more career guidance programmes to foster students’ awareness about career choices and study plans.

The aim is to prevent students from dropping out of school.

The provincial Department of Education and Training said that this year, 1,935 students at continuing education schools have dropped out, accounting for 8 per cent.

The main reason for the increase in number of students dropping out of school is that the continuing education system mostly has students with low academic results. Meanwhile, these schools lack career guidance programmes and facilities, making it impossible for these students to choose a career that is right for them, experts said.

The Department of Education and Training said that currently, many schools' facilities are still inadequate, especially the lack of laboratories, practice rooms and libraries, affecting the ability of students who already have weak academic records to absorb lessons. There are few experiential activities, leading to low educational efficiency and students becoming bored and dropping out.

Regarding solutions in the near future, the department will discuss directly with a student's parents for timely encouragement and create more opportunities and conditions, such as granting scholarships, strengthening tutoring for students with weak academic ability and diversifying forms of testing.

In addition, continuing education schools will strengthen counselling and timely support from the beginning to help students make the right choice and career orientation to suit their interests and abilities.

The schools will also organise more seminars and career orientation with the participation of experts in many fields so that students can accurately orientate their careers.

The department will also study and propose to build the necessary facilities to create a favourable learning environment for students. — VNS
