BẠC LIÊU — Deputy Prime Minister Trần Lưu Quang thanked Giá Rai Town in the Mekong Delta province of Bạc Liêu for encouraging local people to participate in the implementation of three national target programmes.
The three programmes consist of building a modern rural area, sustainably reducing poverty, and pushing socio-economic development in ethnic minority communities and mountainous areas.
The face of rural areas is increasingly innovative and residents are more eager to live in the centre of town, Quang said when he led a Government team to supervise the implementation of the national target programmes on Friday morning.
“The most gratifying thing is that the town has operated many economic models that have used capital from the national target programmes, helping improve the lives of local people,” he said.
“This is the ultimate goal of the national target programmes,” he added.
Quang told the local administration of the town to implement the integration of capital among the national target programmes closely and coherently.
He ordered the provincial administration to work harder as the province's overall disbursement rate of the three national target programmes is still lower than that of other provinces in the delta.
He also required the province to quickly disseminate recent documents issued by the Central Committee, including Decree No. 38/2023/NĐ-CP, amending and supplementing Decree No. 27/2022/NĐ-CP, stipulating the management and implementation of the national target programmes, to speed up their implementation and avoid errors in the province.
A report of the town said that the total budget in the town between 2021 and 2023 reached nearly VNĐ124 billion (US$5.2 million), including more than VNĐ55 billion ($2.3 million) from the State budget.
As of July 31, the town has disbursed more than VNĐ73.67 billion ($3.1 million), using 67.55 per cent of the assigned amount.
Chairman of the People's Committee of the town Đỗ Minh Thắng said the national target programmes had been carried out seriously by all levels and sectors, ensuring compliance with instructions.
Many projects to support the poor had been implemented, thereby solving pressing problems of at-risk households, including with regard to housing, productive land, healthcare, and access to credit, he said.
The town proposed relevant ministries and sectors advise the Government to develop a unique mechanism applicable to each region on the basis of its specific characteristics, he said.
