HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has called for more Vietnamese tourism offices to be opened abroad to boost the development of the sector.

According to a recently issued resolution to accelerate effective and sustainable tourism development, representative tourism offices should be first opened in key markets.

Resolution No.82/NQ-CP sets out tasks and solutions to develop Việt Nam's tourism to become a spearhead economic sector and belong to the group of 30 countries with the leading tourism competitiveness.

The Government asked the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism to continue implementing the project of "restructuring the tourism industry to meet the requirements of development into a spearhead economic sector".

The ministry should focus on restructuring the tourist market and strengthening tourism statistics and tourist information surveys under the National Statistical Survey Programme.

The ministry needs to develop and implement the Green Tourism Action Programme from 2023 to 2025 to protect the natural and social environment at crucial tourist destinations under the orientation of "Green, Clean, Beautiful and Friendly Tourism Destination".

The tourism industry must build a database of the international tourist markets, renew methods and applications of digital technology in tourism promotion, and take advantage of the media and social networks.

The Việt Nam tourism sector must also expand and diversify markets to rapidly grow and attract many visitors with high spending levels and stay long.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was asked to carry out economic diplomacy tasks, serving the country's development, including tourism.

The ministry was also required to promote the role of the overseas Vietnamese representative agency in providing information, advertising and introducing tourism, as well as creating favourable conditions for tourists to Việt Nam.

The ministry has to co-ordinate with other relevant agencies to complete and submit documents to the Government for consideration and promulgation of a resolution on expanding unilateral visa exemption as well as promoting the negotiation of visa exemption agreements with other countries.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Security was requested to continue completing policies on immigration and travel for international tourists, and research and report to the Government on expanding the list of countries in which granting an electronic visa is applicable.

The ministry has to complete e-visa and traditional issuance regulations, study to prolong the temporary stay period for foreigners in Việt Nam, and drastically improve the procedures for security control for foreign tourists in airports.

The Ministry of Transport needs to carry out measures to open international flight routes to Việt Nam further and create more favourable conditions for international airlines to open routes to the country. — VNS
