Multi-million dollar road connecting four inner districts opens for traffic today

HÀ NỘI — Belt road number 2 stretching from Vĩnh Tuy to Ngã Tư Sở has officially opened for traffic.

Costing almost VNĐ10,000 billion (US$423.6 million), it comprises of two parts: expansion of the road from Vĩnh Tuy to Ngã Tư Vọng, and construction of an elevated road stretching from Vĩnh Tuy to Ngã Tư Sở.

First cars enter the road when it opened to traffic on Wednesday.

The total length of the elevated road is 5.1km with a width of 19 metres and seven metres for entrances and exits.

Construction of the road began in 2018 and it is exclusively for cars. It has four lanes and connects inner districts of Hai Bà Trưng, Đống Đa, Hoàng Mai and Thanh Xuân.

The widened road from Vĩnh Tuy to Ngã Tư Vọng has a total of eight lanes, of which six for motor vehicles and two for non-motorised ones.

Deputy Chairman of the city’s People’s Committee Dương Đức Tuấn said the newly opened road will help ease traffic pressure in the area, which has been a hot spot of congestion for many years.

After this project, the city will continue to build and complete other belt roads, Tuấn said. VNS
