HÀ NỘI Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has asked Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee to offer support to the families of six people killed in a road accident on Wednesday.

They died after a cassava truck carrying nine people plunged off a mountain cliff in Đak Đoa District in the Central Highlands. Three other people were seriously injured.

The PM has also told health agencies to do all they can to treat those currently in hospital following the crash.

The truck was travelling from Hà Đông Commune on National Highway 19D when it suddenly drove off the cliff in Gia Lai Province.

The Prime Minister asked provincial authorities to strengthen patrols and strictly handle violations on traffic safety; urgently investigate the cause and fine the individuals or the company involved in the accident.

He also urged a stronger crackdown on trucks overloaded with too many passengers.

Gia Lai Provincial Police are investigating the cause of the accident, focusing on the responsibility of the vehicle owner and the transport company.

The Prime Minister directed the Directorate for Roads of Việt Nam to strengthen examining the vehicle's journey monitoring device, provide data to the police forces, and install warning signs of danger and speed limit on the highways.

The Directorate for Roads of Việt Nam needs to mobilise all human resources to thoroughly repair the black spots of traffic accidents on national highways, and landslides caused by floods. VNS
