PM attends Hà Nội congress on patriotism

The Patriotic Emulation Congress of Hà Nội for the 2020-2025 period was held in the capital on Saturday with the attendance of Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc.

HÀ NỘI — The Patriotic Emulation Congress of Hà Nội for the 2020-25 period was held in the capital on Saturday with the attendance of Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc.

Delivering a report reviewing the city’s emulation and commendation movement in 2015-2020, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Chu Ngọc Anh highlighted its achievements, which he said, had made important contributions to fulfilling socio-political, economic and national defence-security tasks. 

Over the past five years, tens of thousands of local collectives and individuals have been honoured by the Party, State, Prime Minister and municipal People’s Committee with the titles of heroic Vietnamese mothers, labour heroes, national emulation soldiers and certificates of merit. A total of 59 outstanding individuals were recognised as outstanding citizens of the city for 2015-19. 

Anh stressed that the Party organisation, administration and people of Hà Nội will stay united and overcome challenges to accomplish socio-political, economic and cultural tasks for 2020-25 and the subsequent years. 

Addressing the event, PM Phúc, also Chairman of the Central Council for Emulation and Commendation, asked Hà Nội to continue renewing its emulation and commendation affairs to ensure openness, transparency and democracy. 

He expressed his belief that following the congress, the municipal authorities, armed forces and people will carry out emulation campaigns and movements to build a modern and civilised city. 

Later, Anh called on local departments, agencies, businesspeople, officials, cadres, workers and people from all walks of life to respond to the city’s patriotic emulation movements, contributing to fulfilling political tasks for 2020-25. 

On the occasion, PM Phúc presented the title of Hero of the People’s Armed Forces to the city’s young volunteer force. 

Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education Võ Văn Thưởng and President of the Việt Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee Trần Thanh Mẫn granted Labour Orders to outstanding collectives for 2015-20.

Ten outstanding citizens of the city in 2020 were also honoured. A number of collectives and individuals also received certificates of merit from the Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee for their achievements in emulation movements for 2015-20.

Earlier, PM Phúc and the city’s leaders visited an exhibition on Hà Nội’s patriotic emulation movements for 2015-20. — VNS
