HÀ NỘI — Party General Secretary, President Nguyễn Phú Trọng received Chinese Ambassador to Việt Nam Xiong Bo in Hà Nội on Monday.

The Vietnamese leader said he valued the outcomes of the two countries’ recent exchanges, stressing that Việt Nam and China are neighbours led by communist parties. Their traditional friendship, built by late presidents Hồ Chí Minh and Mao Zedong and nurtured by generations of leaders, is a precious asset both sides need to uphold and promote.

Amidst the current global and regional situation, the two parties and countries should share more experiences, foster substantive and effective co-operation in all aspects and resolve outstanding problems on the basis of the common perceptions of their leaders and international law, he said.  President Trọng said this would bring practical benefits to the two peoples and contribute to peace, co-operation and development in the region and the world.

Bo said he was honoured to serve as the Chinese Ambassador to Việt Nam, voicing his approval for the development of relations between the two parties and countries in recent years.

He pledged to actively contribute to bilateral connections. The Chinese Party and Government attach the utmost importance to their friendship with Việt Nam, the diplomat said, adding that they hope the two sides will press on with high-ranking exchanges between their ministries, sectors and localities and substantive partnerships in all spheres, thereby helping to develop the China-Việt Nam comprehensive strategic partnership in a stable and healthy manner. — VNS
