Việt Nam’s UN delegation honours late Party leader Đỗ Mười

Việt Nam’s permanent mission to the United Nations held a ceremony to pay tribute to former General Secretary of the Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV) Central Committee Đỗ Mười on Thursday.

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s permanent mission to the United Nations held a ceremony to pay tribute to former General Secretary of the Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV) Central Committee Đỗ Mười on Thursday.

The mission held a minute of silence and burned incense in memory of the late General Secretary. Ambassador Đặng Đình Quý, head of the delegation, recalled the former leader’s more than 70 years of contributions to the CPV and Việt Nam. Overseas Vietnamese, foreign ambassadors and representatives from delegations to the UN were in attendance to pay their respects. International and local officials also attended.

Đỗ Mười was born on February 2, 1917, in Đông Mỹ Commune, Hà Nội’s Thanh Trì District. He passed away in Hà Nội on October 1 at the age of 101 following a serious illness.

He served as General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee from June 1991 to December 1997, and was presented with an insignia for 80 years of Party membership. Việt Nam will hold a State funeral and two days of national mourning on October 6 and 7. — VNS
