Tribute-paying ceremony for late President Trần Đại Quang held in HCM City

Current and former leaders of the Party and State as well as people from all walks of life yesterday (Sept 26) participated in a ceremony in HCM City at Thống Nhất Hall to pay tribute to Trần Đại Quang, Politburo member and President of the Socialist Republic of Việt Nam.

HCM CITY — Current and former leaders of the Party and State as well as people from all walks of life yesterday (Sept 26) participated in a ceremony in HCM City at Thống Nhất Hall to pay tribute to Trần Đại Quang, Politburo member and President of the Socialist Republic of Việt Nam.

From early morning in HCM City, delegations of ministries, departments, unions and localities in the South and people, including city residents, queued up to pay tribute to the President.

Secretary of the HCM City Party Committee Nguyễn Thiện Nhân, a member of the Funeral Organising Committee, led a delegation to pay tribute to the President.

Nhân said the passing of President Trần Đại Quang was a “great loss to our Party, state and people”.

Other delegates of the HCM City Party Committee, the People’s Council, the People’s Committee, the Việt Nam Fatherland Front Committee of HCM City and the former leaders of the Party and State in the city also paid tribute to the President at the Hall.  

In addition, the delegation of the Military Zone 7 Command and the police units in localities in the South, as well as representatives of central agencies based in HCM City, continued to pay tribute to the President.

The State funeral for the President began at the National Funeral Hall at No 5 Trần Thánh Tông in Hà Nội yesterday (Sept 26).

People from all walks of life also gathered for homage-paying ceremonies held in localities to mourn and remember President Trần Đại Quang.

People also mourn the death of the President in his homeland in Quang Thiện Commune in Kim Sơn District in the northern province of Ninh Bình.

A state funeral and national mourning is also being held for the president in other localities across the country.

Flags will fly at half-staff and entertainment activities will be canceled during the two-day funeral that started yesterday (Sept 26).

Quang will be buried in his hometown in the northern province of Ninh Bình, about 115 kilometres south of Hà Nội today (Sept 27).

President Trần Đại Quang passed away at 10:05am last Friday in Hà Nội at the age of 62 due to a prolonged illness. 

He was elected President of Việt Nam on April 2, 2016. — VNS
