HÀ NỘI – President Trần Đại Quang hosted Cambodian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn, who is in Việt Nam to co-chair the 16th meeting of the Việt Nam-Cambodia Joint Commission on Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation.
The State leader congratulated the Cambodian people on the achievements they have obtained, while showing his delight at the growth of the Vietnam-Cambodia partnership in all fields from politics, diplomacy and defence to economy, trade and investment.
He praised the regular exchange of delegations at all levels, along with the effectiveness of cooperation mechanisms in trade, investment, education, tourism, security, and defence, as well as collaboration among ministries, sectors and localities.
He lauded the outcomes of the 16th meeting of the Việt Nam-Cambodia Joint Commission on Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation, holding that the minutes of the meeting will lay a firm foundation for the further expansion of bilateral ties in the coming time.
He asked Minister Prak Sokhonn to convey his regards to King Norodom Sihamoni and expressed his desire to welcome the King to visit Việt Nam later this year.
Minister Prak Sokhonn noted that Việt Nam and Cambodia jointly held many specific activities to mark the Friendship Year 2017 and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.
He briefed his host on the outcomes of the 16th meeting of the Việt Nam-Cambodia Joint Commission on Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation, with the minutes of the meeting signed to act as a guideline for ministries and sectors of both sides to implement their cooperation.
He said that at the meeting, the two sides discussed a wide range of issues while showing their determination to thoroughly settle border-related issues as well as other matters in the bilateral relationship.
The minister showed gratitude towards the Party, State and people of Việt Nam for saving Cambodia from the genocidal regime of the past, as well as providing assistance for Cambodia’s national development.
President Quang lauded efforts of authorised agencies to complete projects in land border demarcation and planting.
He proposed that in the coming time, the two sides should exert more efforts in seeking effective measures to finish the rest of the work, while coordinating closely in managing a shared border for peace and stability.
He said that he hoped the Cambodian side would continue applying policies to assist Vietnamese Cambodians, with the consideration of political, legal, historical and social factors to create optimal conditions for the community, helping them settle down in the host country and make contributions to local development.
The Vietnamese leader also suggested that Minister Prak Sokhonn continue contributing to the reinforcement of the sound neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainability between Cambodia and Việt Nam.-VNS
