HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc yesterday discussed potential areas for stepping up bilateral co-operation with Morocco in a meeting in Hà Nội with President of the Moroccan House of Representatives Habib El Malki.
He lauded the outcomes of talks between his guest and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân, and stressed his belief that the ongoing trip in Việt Nam by the Moroccan legislator would open up good prospects for the partnership between the two countries’ governments and parliaments.
For his part, Habib El Malki praised Việt Nam’s socio-economic achievements, adding that as both countries were investing heavily in infrastructure as a basis for economic development, there was great potential for bilateral engagement in the field.
Morocco was willing to share its experience with Việt Nam in its sectors of strength like clean energy, fertiliser production, banking, and IT with Việt Nam, he said.
The Moroccan legislator stated that Việt Nam was an important partner of his country, urging the two countries should co-ordinate to increase bilateral trade.
Morocco wanted to increase the exchange of high-ranking delegations with Việt Nam, he said, expressing his wish that PM Phúc would soon pay an official visit to his country to promote comprehensive cooperation.
PM Phúc agreed that the two sides should share experiences in fields of their strength, and should act promptly to increase bilateral trade next year. He said that Việt Nam, as a participant in various new-generation free trade agreements and an APEC member economy, could help Morocco expand its market.
The PM also suggested tourism and agriculture as areas for greater bilateral co-operation.
Phúc said he would assign relevant agencies to study the potential for joint projects with Morocco, but in the immediate future, the two sides should promote exchanges between their business communities.
Party chief: Vietnam, Morocco should intensify bilateral ties
Việt Nam and Morocco should strengthen bilateral relations, bring into play co-operation mechanisms, increase the exchange of delegations at all level as well as people-to-people exchanges, Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng said yesterday.
Speaking at a reception held for President of the Moroccan House of Representatives Habib El Malki in Hà Nội, he welcomed the parliamentarian’s visit, describing it as a highlight in friendly relations between the two legislatures and the two nations.
Trọng thanked Morocco for its solidarity with and support for Viet Nam during its past struggles for national liberation and reunification and in the current process of national construction and development.
The Party chief also spoke highly of Morocco’s role in the Middle East-North Africa region.
Malki affirmed his desire and determination to promote friendship and cooperation between the two countries in general and the two parliaments in particular.
He said the two countries should capitalise on opportunities and potentials to foster bilateral ties for mutual development.
Malki lauded Việt Nam’s external and internal policies as well as its achievements and role in the region and the world.
He said he believed that under the leadership of the CPV, the Vietnamese people would obtain greater successes in national construction, protection and development. — VNS
