HÀ NỘI – A newly-signed agreement between the parliaments of Việt Nam and Morocco is an important legal foundation for the two sides to boost legislative relations and ties in all fields, stated National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân.
Ngân made the remark at a press conference with visiting President of Morocco’s House of Representatives Habib El Malki in Hà Nội on Monday following their talks the same day.
She pledged that Việt Nam’s NA will work hard to realise the agreement, while working with the House of Representatives of Morocco to supervise and speed up the implementation of agreements between ministries and sectors of both countries.
Regarding measures to make parliamentary co-operation more effective, El Malki said that with the signing of the new deal, the first between Việt Nam and the parliament of an African country, the ties between the two parliaments and the two countries will enter a new period.
He noted that the Vietnamese top legislator repeatedly affirmed during their talks that Morocco is a priority of Việt Nam in Africa, asserting that the deal will help forge stronger ties between the two countries in many fields.
El Malki noted that Việt Nam and Morocco share a long-standing friendship and similarities in culture and history, which is a firm foundation for the two sides to develop ties. This is also a good chance for the two countries to strengthen links in economy and trade, he said.
Answering questions on the outcomes of their talks, Ngân said that the two sides reviewed bilateral political, economic and trade co-operation as well as collaboration between the two parliaments.
The parliaments of Việt Nam and Morocco will also continue with their political consultation mechanism, Ngân declared.
Later the same day, President Trần Đại Quang received El Malki, hailing the outcomes of the talks between the two top legislators of the two countries and the signing of a co-operation pact between the two parliaments.
He proposed Morocco create conditions for Vietnamese businesses to access its market and to seek co-operation and investment opportunities.
Quang noted that the two sides should promote links between business communities of the two countries, particularly in trade, tourism, finance and renewable energy.
He affirmed that Việt Nam welcomes businesses from Morocco to come to Việt Nam to study and seek co-operation opportunities with Vietnamese firms.
For his part, El Malki said Việt Nam was considered a gateway for Morocco to access the Southeast Asian region and Morocco was willing to serve as a bridge for Việt Nam to access the North African markets. — VNS
