Catholic solidarity committee celebrates Christmas

The Vietnamese Catholic community has contributed greatly to the country’s economy, education, health, culture and social charity works, priest Trần Xuân Mạnh, chairman and General Secretary of the Việt Nam Committee for Catholic Solidarity (VCCS), said at a meeting held on December 14 in HCM City.

HCM CITY The Vietnamese Catholic community has contributed greatly to the country’s economy, education, health, culture and social charity works, priest Trần Xuân Mạnh, chairman and General Secretary of the Việt Nam Committee for Catholic Solidarity (VCCS), said at a meeting held on December 14 in HCM City.

He said that Vietnamese Catholics were proud of the country’s great achievements in the past years.

Also speaking at the meeting, priest Dương Phú Oanh, vice chairman of VCCS, said the committee would continue to promote the patriotic movement, charitable activities, education, healthcare and socio-economic development programmes.

On behalf of the Việt Nam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, VFF Vice Chairman Ngô Sách Thực sent his best wishes to Vietnamese Catholics.

Thực said he highly appreciated the achievements that the committee had gained over the past years and said he believed that the committee would help further the development of the country and unity among all people.

He said the Party and State respected freedom of religion and recognised it as a legitimate need.

He said he highly valued contributions from the Catholic community in the nation’s development and that he hoped people from all backgrounds and religions in the country would show their solidarity and strive for political stability.

The vice chairman presented the Great National Unity Orders to committee members.

Headquartered in Hà Nội, VCCS, a social organisation and a member of the Việt Nam Fatherland Front, operates under Việt Nam’s constitution and the laws and the pastoral direction of Việt Nam Catholic Bishops Conference. — VNS
