VIENTIANE — Work began on the construction of a high school, a gift from General Secretary of the Communist Party of Việt Nam Nguyễn Phú Trọng, in Laos’ Bolikhamsai Province on Wednesday.

To be built at a cost of VNĐ30 billion (US$1.32 million), the Sithanaxay school project spans 2,126sq.m. It consists of a four-storey building designed to accommodate eight classrooms, two laboratories and a convention room.
The school will be completed in late August 2018, prior to the local 2018-19 school year.
Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, Nguyễn Huy Tăng, deputy head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations, said the move reflects Việt Nam - Laos traditional ties, as well as their leaders’ attention to human resources training.
He stressed it is a major project in celebration of Việt Nam – Laos friendship year 2017, which marks 55 years of bilateral relations and 40 years of the signing of the countries’ Treaty on Amity and Cooperation.
He asked the project management board under the Office of the Party Central Committee and the Company of Economic Co-operation of Việt Nam to co-ordinate to ensure the quality and safety of the project.
Bolikhamsai Province’s deputy governor Bounma Bouchaleuan noted that the school will help the local educational system meet development demands. — VNS
