HÀ NỘI — The Investigation Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security has decided to launch legal proceedings against Đinh Mạnh Thắng, Director of the Petro Sông Đà Trading and Investment JSC over his alleged links to serious violations in the case involving the PetroVietnam Construction JSC (PVC).

The information was verified by a senior official of the Ministry of Public Security on Saturday. 

Thắng, 55, has been detained pending further investigations into his role in the PVC case involving deliberate violations of State regulations on economic management causing serious consequences. 

Currently, investigators are expanding their probe into two economic violation cases, one at the PVC and the other related to the Thái Bình 2 thermal power project. 

In the latter case, the violations and abuse of position and power to appropriate property is said to have resulted in losses of VNĐ800 billion (US$35.5million) to PetroVietnam (PVN)’s investment in Oceanbank.

In a related move, the Investigation Police Department has also decided to prosecute Nguyễn Quốc Khánh, PVN’s former President and CEO, also on the charge of deliberately violation of State regulations on economic management causing serious consequences. 

The police has issued arrest and search warrants for Khánh. 

The same day, the National Assembly Standing Committee adopted a resolution on the prosecution, arrest and suspension of Khánh as a member of parliament. 

Đinh La Thăng, former Chairman of the PVN Member Council, has also been arrested in the case. — VNS
