HÀ NỘI — Joint efforts by the public security and agriculture ministries over the last two years led to the reinstating of five criminal cases that caused losses of over VNĐ1 trillion (US$44.4 million) to the State.
At a meeting on Thursday to review ministerial co-operation, Public Security Minister Colonel General Tô Lâm reported that the Economic and Corruption Crime Investigation Department discovered five corruption cases, initiating investigation against 13 officials and leaders of enterprises under the management of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).
In particular, the former director and another three high-level employee of the Trà Vinh Food Company were arrested for alleged violations leading to a loss of VNĐ662 billion for the State.
The police also set up joint inspection teams with MARD to conduct random checks on more than 9,000 businesses, of which 6,700 were fined for several violations in connection with misusing plant protection products and veterinary medicine or producing animal feed of unsatisfactory quality.
Regarding forest protection efforts, the joint teams inspected over 10,000 cases, of which 7,500 were found to be violating the law.
The two ministries committed to continue their close co-operation in the future. — VNS
