HÀ NỘI – Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc hosted a reception for visiting Lao Defence Minister Chansamone Channhalat in Hà Nội yesterday.

Welcoming the minister, PM Phúc stressed that the visit helps boost the Việt Nam-Laos friendship.

To maintain relations, he suggested the two sides continue with delegation exchanges, while the two defence ministries should fulfill their role as advisors to the two countries’ leaders.

In training, Việt Nam is doing its utmost to improve training quality for Lao students in Việt Nam, and is willing to help train Laos students in fields that Laos has demand for such as defence, the PM said, adding that Việt Nam will increase the training quota for Lao defence ministry officers.

He emphasised that Việt Nam will try its best to help put the Lao National Assembly House into operation early, serving as a symbol of bilateral relations.

The Vietnamese Government leader also reaffirmed Việt Nam’s stance of maintaining the Việt Nam-Laos border of peace, friendship and stability, asking Lao ministries and sectors to work with Việt Nam to ensure border security and prevent cross-border crime.

The Lao minister said his visit is part of activities to mark the Việt Nam-Laos Friendship and Solidarity Year.

He thanked the Vietnamese Party, State and Ministry of Defence for supporting Laos in many fields, including defence.

He informed the host that the two ministries have co-ordinated well in ensuring security, maintaining a peaceful border and stopped plots aiming to hurt bilateral solidarity.

The two ministries have held more than 40 exchanges and co-operative activities in 2017 to respond to the Việt Nam-Laos Friendship and Solidarity Year. — VNS
