HÀ NỘI — Chairwoman of the Việt Nam National Assembly Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân hailed the ongoing visit to Việt Nam of General Secretary of Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith as an important event in bilateral ties.
At a meeting with the Lao Party and State leader in Hà Nội yesterday, NA Chairwoman Ngân said the two sides successfully held activities for the 2017 Việt Nam-Laos, Laos-Việt Nam friendship year.
She noted that the diverse activities exerted widespread influence on people of the two countries, helping them gain a better understanding of the Việt Nam-Laos alliance and the mutual support of the two Parties, States and peoples during their past struggles for national liberation and the present cause of development.
Lao President Bounnhang Vorachith lauded effective co-ordination between the Vietnamese and Lao legislative bodies over the years, affirming their constructive contributions to the fruitful relationship between the two countries.
Host and guest agreed on the need for the two countries’ national assemblies to enhance the sharing of information and experience, and their co-operation in supervising the implementation of Việt Nam-Laos Joint Statements, agreements reached by leaders and Governments of the two countries and other co-operation programmes.
They shared the view that the two legislative bodies should push for changes and supplements to mechanisms, policies and laws to step up collaboration in trade and investment between Việt Nam and Laos.
They also emphasised that the two sides should support each other at regional and international forums. — VNS
