HÀ NỘI – Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng underscored the importance of the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Việt Nam and Laos during his reception in Hà Nội yesterday for Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune, Secretary of the Party Committee and Governor of Laos’ Vientiane capital.

The Party chief hailed the visit, which was concurrent with the 55th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties and the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Co-operation.

Speaking highly of the outcomes of the working session between Hà Nội authorities and the Vientiane delegation--and celebrating the cooperation between the two capital cities over the past years--Trọng expressed his wish that Vientiane continue working closely with Hà Nội, HCM City and Vietnamese localities to further improve the efficiency of wide-ranging co-ordination, including sharing experience in socio-economic management and the building of the Party and political system.

Khoutphaythoune, for his part, informed the host about cooperative ties between Vientiane and Vietnamese localities, as well as effective support that Hà Nội and HCM City have provided for the Lao capital in the fields of economy, agriculture, tourism, health care, education, culture, experience sharing and personnel training.

While briefing the Vietnamese leader about the outcomes of his talks with Secretary of the Hanoi municipal Party Committee Hoàng Trung Hải, the guest affirmed that Vientiane will work closely with Hà Nội, HCM City and other Vietnamese localities to continue further improving the efficiency of their all-around collaboration, contributing to effectively realising agreements reached by the two Parties and countries’ leaders.

Meeting the PM

Also yesterday, Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc hailed the co-operation between Hà Nội and the Lao capital city of Vientiane. He added that he expects the two cities to continue their exchanges and support during his reception for the visiting Vientiane Governor.

Phúc hailed the Lao Governor’s visit to Hà Nội, saying that it contributed to consolidating the bilateral ties between the two cities. He highlighted the special and traditional friendship between Việt Nam and Laos, describing it as a priceless common asset the two nations need to treasure and promote in the future.

For his part, the Lao Governor expressed his hope that PM Phúc will continue facilitating co-operation programmes and projects between the two capital cities. He also pledged to do his utmost to consolidate the special friendship between the two Parties, States and people, and the two capital cities.

According to the PM, the two capital cities need to take lead in strengthening cooperation programmes, especially technical coordination in building green, clean, and beautiful cities. He expressed his hope that the two sides will increase their exchanges and experience sharing in capital development. The Government of Việt Nam and Hà Nội will do their utmost to contribute to the construction and development of Vientiane in the future, the PM said.
