HÀ NỘI — Politburo member, President Tô Lâm, who is also chairman of the National Defence and Security Council, presided over the 5th meeting of the council for the 2021-2026 term.
During the meeting, the council discussed and reviewed achievements in various fields, particularly the public security force, along with national defence, security and foreign affairs matters.
Politburo members attended Thursday's meeting, including Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, Vice Chairman of the council, National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn, member of the council , and Minister of National Defence General Phan Van Giang, member of the council.
Participants also reviewed the implementation results of Resolution No 05-NQ/TW of the 13th Politburo regarding the organisation of the People’s Army for the 2021-2030 period and beyond, as well as Resolution No 12-NQ/TW on strengthening the People's Public Security force to become a truly clean, strong, regular, elite, and modern force to meet the requirements of the modern world.
On behalf of the council, President Lâm acknowledged and said he highly appreciated the preparation for the session, as well as the significant, strategic-oriented comments from the council members on major topics that are crucial and impactful on Việt Nam’s national security and foreign affairs.
The President emphasised that the implementation of Resolution No 05-NQ/TW has achieved significant results, with the People's Army organisation being streamlined to be lean, strong and effective. The highest goal remains ensuring the People's Army can win any war, defend the nation and be a source of pride for the Vietnamese people and nation.
The implementation of Resolution No 12-NQ/TW, with its determined and methodical approach, has also yielded significant results. The People's Public Security force has been reorganised into a streamlined, effective and efficient four-tier structure, ensuring national security and safety for every citizen, thereby fostering socio-economic development.
In light of the complex and unpredictable global situation, the council analysed and assessed the world, regional and domestic situations and their impacts on Việt Nam.
The Party and State have adopted many policies and solutions to ensure the highest national interests and foster solidarity in the Mekong sub-region and ASEAN, ensuring that Việt Nam is a crucial element in international political integration, the global economy and human civilisation.
President Lâm urged continuous monitoring, research, analysis and timely evaluation of global, regional and domestic situations, especially strategic issues impacting Việt Nam’s national defence and security. This is to provide timely recommendations to the Party and State, ensuring proactive and well-prepared responses to all situations. — VNS
