Vietnamese, Philippine coast guards convene first conference

HÀ NỘI — People who share their names with striker Nguyễn Công Phượng and goalkeeper Đặng Văn Lâm will enjoy a range of discounts after Việt Nam defeated Jordan 4-2 on penalty kicks to advance to the Asian Cup quarter-finals.
Shops across the country released promotions for all customers to celebrate the win, but customers with identification cards showing the names Phượng and Lâm will get special discounts up to 50 per cent off.
"Normally, discounts of 50 per cent are for products that have been displayed in our shop for months,” said Hằng, a clothing shop owner in HCM City’s District 5. “But after that win I decided to apply that big promotion for everybody named Phượng or Lâm. What they need to do is show their ID or driving licence.”
"It is because striker Phượng scored a goal to draw level with Jordan while Lâm made saves in the match and the penalty shootout," she said.
A shoe shop in Đồng Nai is also having a half price deal for customers named Phượng or Lâm.
A shop selling bird nets in HCM City has a discount of 30 percent on all products for ’Phượng’ buyers.
To celebrate the win, some car shops also announced discounts between VNĐ50 and 80 million.
Food delivery and ride-hailing apps are also having promotions after the win. Grab, for example, has given customers the code No1 for a 40 per cent discount on GrabFood services until January 23. — VNS
