HCM CITY The Miss Universe Việt Nam 2021 competition has been launched in HCM City.
Women aged 18 to 27 who are at least 1.60m tall are encouraged to join the event.
This year, transgender contestants are eligible to enter the contest.
The organiser will select 21 candidates for the semifinal rounds, to be held in December in Long Hải town of Vũng Tàu City in Bà Rịa Vũng Tàu Province.
The contestants will compete in the categories of traditional costumes, swimsuits, question-and-answer sessions and evening wear.
They will also take part in two additional competitions highlighting their talent and charity work.
Ten finalists will compete for the crown.
The organiser will present awards for Miss Charming Face, Miss Photo, Miss Ocean, Miss Fashion and Miss Áo Dài (Vietnamese traditional dress).
The winners will represent Việt Nam in global beauty competitions such as Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss Earth.
"We target turning this beauty contest into a charming introduction to Vietnamese culture and lifestyle,” said Trần Việt Bảo Hoàng, deputy head of Miss Universe Việt Nam 2021’s organising board.
“We hope our event will encourage young women to live more happily and confidently.”
Miss Universe Việt Nam 2021 will be broadcast live on Việt Nam Television. The selective rounds will be organised in September in Hà Nội and HCM City. Semi-final rounds will begin on September 13 in HCM City.
Miss Universe Việt Nam 2019 Khánh Vân will support contestants during the event.
The jury will include Miss Universe Việt Nam 2017 H’s Hen Niê who placed in the top five in Miss Universe 2018 in Thailand.
H’Hen Nie, from the Ê Đê ethnic minority of the Tây Nguyên (Central Highlands) province of Đắk Lắk, has worked as an ambassador for Room to Read, a global non-profit organisation focused on literacy and girls’ education.
She now works in different fields, including fashion and movies. She has been involved in several charity and community projects aimed at young women and children of ethnic groups.
Miss Universe Việt Nam began in 2008 and is organised every two years. The contest has encouraged many young women to demonstrate their talent in their careers as well as charity and social activities. VNS
