HÀ NỘI — Live music shows are expected to feature thousands of screaming, happy fans this month in Hà Nội and Đà Nẵng.
Singer and songwriter Vũ Duy Khánh will perform at a live show in the city’s Opera House tomorrow.
"I have spent a year on the show Khánh 30 (Youth of Khánh) to celebrate my 14 years of singing,” said 30-year-old Khánh in a recent interview with media.
Khánh’s producer spent several billion đồng on light and sound effects and other elements to perfect his show.
He will sing 20 songs in different styles, including top hits by himself such as Buồn (Blue), Khóc (Cry) and I Love you.
Khánh began his career by singing pop and bolero, but has recently turned to dance music.
“I want to offer a great concert to my fans, mostly youth, who have supported me and helped me become successful today,” said Khánh, adding that he also hoped that his career would encourage youth to pursue their dream.
He has released six albums and has also performed in dozens of concerts and TV shows.
For his live show Khánh 30, Khánh invited pop star Tuấn Hưng and young singers Dương Hoàng Yến and Lê Trinh, and rapper Đạt G.
His concert will open at 8pm on October 1.
In another show, Vietnamese-American singer Khánh Ly will stage a live performance with guest singers in Đà Nẵng.
She will sing with American singer Kyo York, who has lived in Việt Nam for a decade, and Vietnamese-American Elvis Phương, who was famous in the 1970s and 1980s.
About 3,000 people are expected to attend The Best of Khánh Ly - Tạ Ơn (The Best of Khánh Ly-Thank You), to take place at Trưng Vương Theatre on October 26.
Ly will perform 20 songs by famous composers, including Phạm Duy, Trịnh Công Sơn, Lam Phương and Vũ Thành An.
The 73-year-old Ly, whose real name is Nguyễn Thị Lệ Mai, was born into a traditional family in 1945 in Hà Nội. She began her career when she was nine years old.
In 1956, she moved with her family to the South and won her first prize in a children’s singing contest with a song by Phạm Duy, one of the country’s most outstanding composers in contemporary music.
In 1964, she met songwriter Sơn in Đà Lạt and they quickly became a couple in the music world.
In 1970, Ly performed at the Osaka Fair in Japan following an invitation by the Nippon Columbia recording company. She also recorded an album in both Vietnamese and Japanese, featuring Sơn’s songs like Diễm Xưa (Old Fame) and Ca Dao Mẹ (Mother’s Folk Songs). Diễm Xưa (Utsukushii Mukashi in Japanese) was listed among the country’s top 10 favourite love songs. — VNS
