HCM CITY — Several hundred people have already visited a photo exhibition featuring Vietnamese fishermen and local seas which opened at the HCM City Fine Arts Museum last weekend
The event, Biển Trong Chúng Ta (Our Seas), displays 90 black-and-white photos featuring Vietnamese seas and people living in fishing villages in coastal provinces.
The photos are from the latest collection of photographer Mỹ Dũng, who spent three years on the project.
Dũng travelled from Móng Cái in the north to Cà Mau Cape in the south to capture the images of seas, landscapes and locals in daily life.
Speaking at the event’s opening ceremony on Sunday, Dũng said: ”My photos are about Vietnamese seas and people who have worked hard to develop their land.”
“Through my exhibition, I hope viewers, particularly young people, enjoy the beauty of our seas which are part of our country,” he added.
Highlighted works feature villages and farmers of the southernmost province of Cà Mau located at the tip of the country.
Cà Mau Cape is 180km from Cà Mau City. It is the only place in the country where visitors can see both sunrise and sunset in one day.
The province is home to famous salt marshes and cajuput forests and islands, such as U Minh Forest, Năm Căn Forest and Hòn Khoai and Hòn Chuối islands.
“These images helped us learn more about Việt Nam’s culture and lifestyle,” said Sean Lower, an American visitor.
The exhibition will close tonight at 97A Phó Đức Chính St in District 1. — VNS
