HÀ NỘI — Netflix will buy the copyright for Hai Phượng (Furie) starring Ngô Thanh Vân (Veronica Ngo) after its successful premiere in the US.

The film will be screened widely in the US via TVs and smart devices.

The latest action thriller by Vân promises to be a Vietnamese blockbuster. In the film, Vân plays Hai Phượng, a single mother who leaves a glamorous life behind to raise her daughter and keep her safe. One day, little Mai is kidnapped in front of Phượng’s eyes. She has only 14 hours to get her daughter back.

The film includes writer/director Lê Văn Kiệt, fight choreographer Kefi Abrikh and action director Yannick Ben.

Distribution label Well Go USA Entertainment released it in American cities such as Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia, San Jose, Portland, Seattle and New York on March 1.

Vân stars in 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Netflix’s Bright. Those films both had large audiences. She is well-known as a leading action actress in Vietnamese cinema, with credits including The Rebel (2007), Clash (2009), and Once Upon a Time in Vietnam (2013).

Netflix is a streaming service that allows customers to watch a wide variety of award-winning TV shows, movies, documentaries, and more on thousands of internet-connected devices. — VNS
