Books, films on cultural heritage launched

HCM City's District 5 on Thursday launched the English and Chinese versions of the book Tự hào di sản văn hóa quận 5 (Proud of District 5’s Cultural Heritage) to promote cultural preservation.

HCM CITY —  HCM City’s District 5 on Thursday launched the English and Chinese versions of the book Tự hào di sản văn hóa quận 5 (Proud of District 5’s Cultural Heritage) to promote cultural preservation.

The book, which was launched in Vietnamese in 2017, is about 19 recognised relics, 11 of which are at the national level and eight at the city level.

These relics are considred invaluable public assets which should be preserved throughout generations, Trương Canh Ba, deputy chairman of District 5’s People’s Committee, said.

District 5, which is a manufacturing and commercial centre, also has a rich and diverse cultural life.

The issuance of books will help inform the public about nationally recognised cultural buildings and relics, and contribute to the preservation and protection of heritage values.

A total of 4,000 copies will be delivered to tourist destinations, hotels and schools.

Short films on these 19 heritage buildings with English and Chinese subtitles were also launched on Thursday.

The heritage buidings are : Hồ Chí Minh President’s Memorial Hall, the Detention Area of Chợ Quán Hospital, Thiên Tôn Pagoda, Tuệ Thành Lady Pagoda, Nghĩa An Pagoda, Nhị Phủ Temple, Quỳnh Phủ Lady Pagoda, Ôn Lăng Lady Pagoda, Hà Chương Lady Pagoda, Silversmith Worthship Hall of Lệ Châu Clubhouse, Minh Hương Communal House, and Nghĩa Nhuận Clubhouse. — VNS
