HCM CITY —  A showcase room featuring images of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers has opened at the HCM City’s Southern Women Museum, as part of the city’s cultural activities to celebrate the 78^th anniversary of the Southern Resistance Day (November 23, 1940). 

The room displays 70 photos, pictures and sculptures, and 60 subjects portraying the life and career of women who received the State title of Vietnamese Heroic Mother for their contributions and sacrifices to the country’s liberation.

Many of these photos and pictures are creations by famous female artists in southern provinces.   

The exhibit uses 3D technology and touchscreens on computers and smartphones for searching information, images and documents.

“Our showcase room, called Chân Dung Bà Mẹ Việt Nam Anh Hùng Miền Nam và TP HCM (Portraits of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers in the South and HCM City), aims to honour the spirit and brave character of Vietnamese women and speak about how their moral example serves as a model of the spirit that has been maintained and developed throughout the country’s wars of resistance and national construction,” the museum director Nguyễn Thị Thắm said.

“Through the room’s images and objects, visitors can learn more about the country’s heroic history, particularly the great contributions Vietnamese women made to the country and people,” she added.

More than 5,000 heroic mothers have been honoured in the city, and 278 of them are still alive, receiving monthly support and special policies from the Government for their lifetime. Many heroic mothers lost their husbands and children on the battlefield for national independence and freedom

Another exhibition on Tây Nguyên (Central Highlands) culture opened recently at the museum and attracted local and foreign visitors.

The event displays 150 ancient ceramic jars made by artisans from ethnic minority groups living in Tây Nguyên. The objects were collected and stored for more than 20 years by the museum’s staff. 

The Hồ Chí Minh City Southern Women’s Museum opened in 1985 and welcomes more than 1,000 visitors, including 100 foreigners, every day.

It has more than 35,000 objects and 11,000 books and magazines featuring Vietnamese women in different periods.

The museum opens every day at 9am and closes at 6pm at 200-202 Võ Thị Sáu Street in District 3. — VNS
