HÀ NỘI  — An art exhibition by seven female painters work on the theme of feminity is underway in Hà Nội.

Titled Flowers and Women, the exhibition focuses on the beauty, inner lives and desires of women.

The 42 paintings in the exhibition reflect the aesthetic perception and view of the artists on society, ethics and their desire for gender equality.

“The exhibition raises many questions such as ‘how do female artists present those themes in these days’, ‘is there any difference with the way artists of previous generations did’, ‘if so, how are they in term of the representation and artist gender’,” said Bùi Quang Thắng, art director of the Việt Nam National Institute of Culture and Arts Studies (VICAS).

“Each author has her own style and personality yet all of the seven artists possess powerful and free painting style which has significantly contributed to Expressionism art in Việt Nam,” said Thắng.

Tô Ngọc Thảo, student of the Việt Nam Fine Arts University, is the youngest in the group. She presented the conflict between women’s desire for freedom and their binds due to traditional values, while Đinh Mai Thu Trang combines Đông Hồ folk paintings with oil on canvas.

The exhibition will run until April 22 at VICAS Art Studio, 32 Hào Nam Street, Hà Nội. — VNS
