HÀ NỘI — An interactive exhibition called "Games and Realities" will open at the Hanoi Goethe Institute on August 3.
"Games and Realities" will present 18 playable games covering a wide range of social and political topics from the past 12 years. The interactive exhibition has toured some 49 cities around the world.
At the exhibition, visitors not only have an opportunity to try the games, but can also watch a 20-minute introductory film about the exhibition and short films about the games. The exhibition also displays some games by Vietnamese producers.
An accompanying exhibition catalog provides background information on these independent games and their unifying concepts. Through these games, players experience the consequences of political decision-making (Democracy III) and witness social injustices. The games also address the precarious labour conditions (Sunset), gender issues (Perfect Woman), the state of surveillance (Touchtone) and many other issues.
Adopting the characters of often-marginalised people such as a border official, housekeeper, drone pilot or war survivor, players experience limited possibilities and negative sanctions through both the character and the game play.
The exhibition is presented by the Goethe Institute in Hà Nội in co-operation with the Centre for Art and Media Karlsruhe.
A talk show with Vietnamese game producers will be held on August 6 at 9am. The exhibition will continue until August 27 from 9am to 7pm on 66 Nguyễn Thái Học Street. — VNS
