German soprano, Finnish pianist perform at "Underneath the Starry Sky" concert

German soprano Katharina Kutsch and Finnish pianist Pauliina Tukiainen will perform in the concert “Underneath the Starry Sky” at the HCM City Opera House tomorrow (March 29).

HCM CITY — German soprano Katharina Kutsch and Finnish pianist Pauliina Tukiainen will perform in the concert “Underneath the Starry Sky” at the HCM City Opera House on Wednesday.

The programme will include Schumann’s In der Natch (In the Night) and Zigeunerleben (Gypsy Life), Schubert’s Nacht und Träume (Night and Dream) and Der Wanderer an den Mond (The Wanderer to the Moon), and Mendelssohn’s Nachtlied (Night Song).

Excerpts from famous operas will also be featured, including Mozart’s Don Govanni and Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro), Puccini’s Turandot, Verdi’s Falstaff, and Offenbach’s Les contes d’Hoffmann (The Tale of Hoffmann).

The musicians will perform with soloists of the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO), including Cho Hae Ryong, Meritorious Artist Trần Hồng Vy, and Phạm Trang.

Sopranos Phạm Khánh Ngọc and Phạm Duyên Huyên, and tenors Đào Mác and Phan Hữu Trung Kiệt will be featured as well.

Kutsch studied at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts from 1999. She attended master classes by well-known musicians Hartmut Höll, Ernst Haefliger, and Edith Wiens.

She has performed in numerous opera productions in her home country and abroad.

Kutsch has taught music at the University of Giessen and the Marburg Choirmaster School in Germany since 2003.

Tukiainen studied piano in Finland and Germany with well-known artists Hartmurt Holl and Anne Le Bozec.

She has performed at famous concert halls like the Musikverein in Vienna and the Tonhalle Zürich in Germany, and festivals of the Lake Constance Festival in Germany and the Cape Classic Festival in South Africa.

She has released several CDs featuring songs by Schumann, Strauss, Debussy and Wagner. She has hosted several master classes and taught music at schools in Freiburg and Frankfurt.
