GERMANY — Việt Nam’s 400 artefacts dating back thousands of years are on display in Germany since October 7.

This is the first time such a large-scale exhibition of Vietnamese artefacts is being held in Germany.

The exhibition is divided into three themes: artefacts from prehistoric Viet Nam, artefacts excavated from the Mỹ Sơn sanctuary and those found in the Thăng Long Imperial Citadel.

From October 7 to February 26, the exhibition will be held in Herne City’s LWL museum of Archeology.

The artefacts will be on display in two other museums located in Germany’s Sachsen and Baden-Württemberg regions.

Last Friday, 700 visitors attended the exhibition’s opening ceremony, which was held at LWL museum in Herne City in Nordrhein-Westfalen.

At the opening ceremony, Ambassador of Việt Nam to Germany Đoàn Xuân Hưng and Việt Nam’s Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Đặng Thị Bích Liên highlighted the importance of the exhibition this year when Việt Nam and Germany are celebrating the fifth anniversary of the establishment of their strategic partnership. The exhibition is expected to help people in Germany understand better the history and culture of Việt Nam, and therefore strengthen the connection and mutual understanding between the two countries.

Sabine Von Scholemer, minister of science and art of Germany’s Sachsen region, said the exhibition can bring the two countries closer and help promote tourism and economic exchange.

“This is a very important project for Germany as this is the first time German people living in Germany will get learn about the archeology of Việt Nam. This also helps the 100,000 Vietnamese people living in Germany admire those artefacts and be proud of the rich culture of their country,” she said.—VNS
