VN, Indian Int’l fashion show

A fashion show featuring the Vietnamese áo dài and Indian saris will be held at the Áo Dài Museum in HCM City on Friday.

HCM CITY A fashion show featuring the Vietnamese áo dài and Indian saris will be held at the Áo Dài Museum in HCM City on Friday.

The event, organised by the Indian Consulate General of HCM City and the museum, will introduce the beauty and history of the two countries’ traditional costumes to locals and foreigners.

Speaking at a recent press conference in the city, Smita Pant, Consul General of India in HCM City, said: “The show aims to enhance understanding of the beauty of the traditional costumes of India’s sari and Việt Nam’s áo dài, and also open collaboration opportunities between the fashion designers of the two countries.”

The 60-minute catwalk event will show the latest collection of áo dài and saris designed by Việt Nam’s leading designer Sĩ Hoàng, owner of the Áo Dài Museum.

Hoàng uses Indian fabrics to make áo dài, and Vietnamese silk with painting decorative patterns for saris.

He said, “My designs will show the beauty of fabrics from both countries, and a great connection between Indian and Vietnamese fabrics.”

The designs will be presented by women of the Indian community in HCM City.

The event will also include singing and dancing performances by Indian and Vietnamese artists.

At the museum from April 1 to June 30, Indian fabrics produced by the country’s 15 leading textile companies, áo dài designs, and Indian female and male dresses will  be on display.

Nearly 300 visitors are expected to take part in the event, which will begin at 5:30pm. The museum is located at 206/16/30 Long Thuận Garden House in District 9. — VNS
