HÀ NỘI — The National Documentary and Scientific Film Studio (DSF) will present nine outstanding documentaries as part of activities marking the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27, 1947–July 27, 2026).

Produced by the DSF across different periods of the nation's history, the films offer authentic glimpses into Việt Nam's struggle for national liberation.

The film screening is a meaningful cultural initiative to honour and pay tribute to fallen heroes, war invalids, veterans, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, and others who made outstanding contributions to the nation's revolutionary cause.

It also aims to foster patriotism and uphold the tradition of remembering those who sacrificed for the country, while highlighting the role of documentary filmmaking in preserving and promoting the nation's historical and revolutionary legacy.

Audiences will have the opportunity to watch a selection of the studio's most acclaimed documentaries, including Còn Lại Với Thời Gian (Still Standing the Test of Time), K10, Chị Năm Khùng (Crazy Sister Năm), Dòng Păm Pơi Vẫn Hát (The Păm Pơi River Still Sings) and Những Tù Nhân Không Số (The Numberless Prisoners).

Each documentary tells a true story distilled from history, revisiting the years of war through the lives of courageous soldiers, the diaries and letters left behind by fallen servicemen, the tireless search for and recovery of martyrs' remains, and the unwavering resilience of female revolutionaries imprisoned while pregnant.

Through these ordinary yet extraordinary lives, the films offer a moving portrayal of patriotism, self-sacrifice, resilience and an enduring commitment to the revolutionary cause.

The programme also showcases documentaries about soldiers, youth volunteers and revolutionary fighters, including Đại đội 915 – Bản Hùng Ca Màu Lửa (Company 915 – A Ballad of Fire), Đội Nữ Pháo Binh 8/3 – Một Thời Rực Lửa (The March 8 Women's Artillery Unit – A Time of Glory in the Flames) and Tuổi Trẻ Bất Khuất (Unyielding Youth). Through authentic accounts of the war years, the films honour the military achievements, heroic sacrifices and unwavering resolve of the generations who fought for the nation's independence.

Audiences will also have the opportunity to watch a documentary paying tribute to the war correspondents and cinematographers of the DSF, who risked their lives to document the realities of the battlefield.

Captured through their youth, courage and, in many cases, the ultimate sacrifice, these historic images have become a treasured part of the nation's collective memory and an invaluable legacy of Vietnamese documentary cinema.

Over the past 70 years, the DSF has produced thousands of documentary and scientific films, many of which have won prestigious domestic and international awards.

Its works have played an important role in preserving key milestones in the nation's history while vividly documenting the lives of its people and the country's development.

Through the programme, the studio seeks to make documentary films more accessible to the public, especially young people, helping to nurture patriotism, national pride and a sense of civic responsibility.

It also aims to reaffirm the role of documentary cinema in preserving the nation's historical memory and promoting its enduring humanistic values.

The documentaries will be screened on July 24-25 at DSF located on 465 Hoàng Hoa Thám Street, Ngọc Hà Ward, Hà Nội. Audience members can receive tickets at the cinema without registering in advance. — VNS
